Nur Shuhadah
If you look you will see that this world is a beautiful, accident, turbulent, succulent, opulent, permanent, no way. I wanna taste it! Don't wanna waste it away~ So knock me off my feet. Come on now give it to me baby. (:

I'd rather be anything but ordinary.

because my cable is being a beyotch again, i shall name today as..
*drumrolls*
Muslim Girl in a Modern World.

i've been meaning to do this to make people understand my religion better from my perspective.
i don't deny that my thinking is modern in some topics that might be haram in Islam and I might be frown upon hardcore Muslims.
but you know what, i don't give a flying owl..eh..i mean i don't give a damn (:
we will lose out if we stay in our little box of comfort forever.
hey, even fatwa-s change with time.
so today, is a historical day my friends.

i get a lot of questions about my tudung/hijab.
today, you'll get all the answers.

(Nur Shahidah bte Mohamed, this is for you.
i'm still very very very mad at you, but no matter what i still have to love you and take care of you.
so you better appreciate it before i get married.
i know you hate wearing the hijab now so this is to help you understand why i choose to wear it when i can flaunt my beautiful long hair.)

1) When did you started wearing it Shu-ee?
there's 2 phases to my hijab-wearing. first, i was forced to wear it when i realized was capable of producing blood in the nether regions. (very subtle shu. way to go.) i HATED wearing it then. i'll always secretly take it off when i go out and holy sheep balls do i look fugly when i wear them.

second phase is when i was in sec 3, i started to wear it willingly..'ikhlas' we call it. i supposed i'm one of those lucky ones who Allah opens the heart to accept it and insyaAllah.. i'll keep this up till my dying day (:

2) Is it hot to wear it?
well.. it's hotter in hell infidels! :D haha.. ok sorry.. honestly, it doesn't make any difference anymore. if you were to ask Azrie, my family or my closest friends, they'll know tt i'm always cold. so go figure.

3) How long is yr hair?
people are always surprised when i tell them how long my hair is. well..it covers 70% of my back now and i think i'm gonna let it grow longer, much to the chagrin of my ummi (:

4) Do you even care for your hair since it's not seen? eww.
yes i do care for my hair. you do know what a bitch it is to dry long hair right? it's double hard when you wear the hijab.

i shampoo and condition it twice a week or more if i have the time. if you wear the tudung with wet hair, it's gonna stink when it dries and the headache it induces is not even worth the effort. so i always wash it at night. BUT it's unhealthy to sleep with wet hair. so i have to let it dry..which usually takes an hr. extremely time-consuming! luckily my hair is protected from environmental pollution so it smells good for a longer period of time ((:

5) Do you have ears? (i'm not kidding. i get asked several times)
just bacause you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. you know it's there, you can feel it n i heard yr question just fine right? so yes, i have a pair of working ones.

6) Do you wear it at home?
hell no. unless we have non-family visitors.

7) Is it a must to wear it?
yes. it's a must (wajib) in our religion as it protects our vanity

8) Then why most Malays don't wear them?
firstly, not all Malays are Muslims (: very common misconception. anyways, it's a matter of choice. Sure, parents can force us to wear them when we're young and teach us the consequences.. but as we get older, we can think for ourselves so we'll decide what's right and what kind of lifestyle we want.

9) So why do you?
i can safely say that i wear it because i'm scared of hell..and i want God to at least be proud that i'm doing something right (: so i like it too. i like how it shapes my face. i like how it transforms me from a monster to an angel with just a piece of cloth as i tend to behave better with it on. besides, azrie likes me at first sight because of it. hahahaha~

superficial reasons n jokes aside, another reason why i wear it because it's my statement against close-minded individuals who say women of Islam are submissive and oppresed (personal exprience). i have a diploma, i have a gold to my name, i am employed, i have equal say in the family, i proudly declare that i contribute to the economy by shopping, i complete runs without having heart attack, i wreck hell if my hot bf doesn't listen to what i have to say and i even save lives with my precious blood! oppressed you say. *snort* you can kiss my hair!

Conclusion
wearing a hijab does not limit me from achieving anything. in fact, it drives me to prove that i can do the same or even better than non-wearers. Not all who wear the hijab are pious and gentle muslimah. i am a perfect example of imperfection under wraps. on the contrary, there are women who don't wear the hijab that are much better than those who do in many ways and they have my utmost respect. makes sense? yea. also, you can't say..

'asal tak pakai tudung? nak rambut kena bakar kat neraka? setan betul'
or
'perangai mcm setan. lebih baik tk pakai tudung!'

you're not God so who are you to judge? you might never know that she will become a million times better than you and step into jannah while you don't even get a whiff of it. instead, take time to know someone and understand the decisions they have made in life. (: you might just learn something new!
